Okay, okay. here are some prettier items...
I didn't abandon my flowers completely. I just went on a substantial tangent. Oh, and I actually sold something! It's my first sale that was from the marketplace at Cafepress, and not the result of my mother. :) I love you Mom!

I'm a granny driver and proud of it!
Many of you who know me, know that I'm, well, a granny driver. You know, that person who doesn't really go above the speed limit and stays in the same lane the entire time she's on the highway?
That's me.
Now, I used to be ashamed of my granny-driver status. But no more!
Why, you ask?
One simple fact. (or at least my poetic understanding of whatever my engineer sister told me about cars/engines/gas mileage.)
When you don't brake as often, you increase your gas mileage. So by staying steady at 55 or 65 mph, I use less gas.
So--whatever your ideologic refrain, anyone can get behind the granny driver movement!
Benefits of being a granny driver
Saving the environment
Reducing dependence on foreign oil
Sticking it to big oil
Creating a smaller pocketbook dent
and well, because I'm a rehab physician, and have over the course of these 4 years seen every bad consequence of every risky thing there is to do out there, I have to add that it must be true that car accidents at slower speeds cause fewer morbidities (and hopefully driving at slower speeds causes fewer accidents.)
So, now instead of being ashamed of my granny-driverness, I revel in it! (okay, maybe not, but still...)
Join the granny driver movement!
(I might even make t-shirts! :)

L.M. Montgomery
So, okay, to add to the confusion:

I'm a big fan of L.M. Montgomery, so when I saw this quiz, I had to take it. I spent many days in my preteen and-- who am I kidding-- teenage years with her books.

address label redux
So I re-did the address label, so it looks better, but somehow the colors got messed up when I uploaded it to the blog. But you get the idea.
Project Runway begins again!
Project Runway 3 started this past Wednesday.
I'm so sorry to say that I've already watched the "Road to the Runway" special 3 times. This has something to do with my being sick at the present moment (I'm a bit better now--coughing is less, phelgm is starting to clear--it's just your typical head cold.)
Anyway, this group of designers seems to have so much potential for drama.
you have your guy w/ multiple tattoos, guy w/ fake british accent and evil laugh, guy w/ extreme arrogance who is a menswear designer ;), the geek, the youngster, the mom, the street guy, the WASP-y lady, and of course the Harvard MBA. (because a reality show wouldn't be a reality show without a Harvard MBA.)
Identity crisis
So now I find out that I am Spider-Man.
This is getting confusing ;)
Your results:
You are Spider-Man
a bit geeky and have great
power and responsibility.

Rebuilding Libraries on the Gulf Coast, one book at a time!
The folks at televisionwithoutpity.com (my favorite TV snark site) and pamie.com (the blog of the former Gilmore girls recapper at TWOP) have teamed up to restock the Harrison County Library System. It's remarkably organized. The libraries have made wishlists at Amazon, you buy books off the wishlists, Amazon ships them to the library of your choice, and then the site gets an Amazon affliate kickback, which they then donate to the library system!
1150 books have already been sent, and my humble additions of Double Fudge and The Joy Luck Club round it out to 1152 or thereabouts.
Check it out!
As a self respecting library patron, I couldn't pass up the chance to be part of such an amazing book drive, and I hope you feel the same. Let me know if you donate something. I'm curious.

Which of the X-Men are you?
Because of Roopali, I found this. And found out that I'm Rogue. Who are you?
| You Are Rogue |
You're reluctantly special. In fact, you long to be normal. You consider your powers to be a curse, and something you can't control. Powers: absorbing other people's memories and abilities, weakening and killing people with your touch |
I'm a globe-trotter!
Well, not really, because I really can't dribble a basketball, but in the beginning of May, I felt like I was one.
First, I was in Spain for a week with Lena. We had a great time. Lots of site-seeing.

(first picture is of Toledo, on the Tagus, and the next three pictures are various views of the Cathedral of Sevilla)
Then, the following weekend I was in Grand Rapids, Michigan for a family event and saw the tulip festival, which if you've seen the rest of the blog, you know I loved.

Address Labels

I designed this address label for a friend's birthday, and then couldn't resist getting a few for myself. When they arrived though, I felt that something was off with the design.
So your choices are
A) The design is too busy for an address label
A1) (choose one) picture from your website would work better
B) The inset part needs to be lighter
B1) The font needs to be darker
C) You're crazy, it's perfect, and your friend liked it the way it was so why are you stressing?
D) Pick your own answer

Today's been a surreal day
Well received grand rounds. Check.
Very productive meeting on my research project. Check.
Project Runway's divine Tim Gunn picks my question for the designers and says my name on national TV. Check?!??!!
It's OVER
I am so happy grand rounds is over. I still have an adrenaline rush. It was well received, which is really satisfying considering the amount of work that I did.

Magnets

I bought the orchid magnets, and they came out great! I'm very excited that the colors are vibrant--the picture I took of the magnets is a little washed out though.
I'm underwhelmed
To take a page out of Michael Kors' book, I was very underwhelmed by my TV shows this week.
However, with Gilmore girls, I'll holding out that I'll get a sweet payoff in the end.
With Project Runway, I'm a bit "meh." Especially after seeing the collections, and absolutely loving Kara's decoy collection. Though I am excited for the reunion show! Diana! Nick! Andrae! Oh, my!
Cease and Desist
I got one of those "cease and desist" letters from Project Runway via Cafepress. I should have realized what I created infringed on copyright. Oh, well. Live and learn, and take down all things related to project runway based designs. :)
But then I obviously didn't learn, because when subscribed to Google Adwords, they asked for a URL for the ad. Not thinking, I put down www.cafepress.com/nsa001. Unfortunately, cafepress.com is a trademark, so again I was infringing on trademark. So I stopped my google adwords campaign as I don't have time to put together a domain where I can direct traffic to first. At least I'm only $5.35 in the hole. Small favors. Silver linings.

I'm diversifying into pink
What else but pink orchids? Taken at the Philadelphia Flower Show in 2005. Photoshopped to appear like a watercolor tonight. Placed on various magnets and such tonight :)
